Geelong is set to call in the cavalry for Saturday’s match with the Gold Coast SUNS at Metricon Stadium.

The top-four Cats made easy work of a depleted St. Kilda on Sunday, dismissing the AFL’s bottom-ranked side by 96 points with a senior outfit lacking its usual muscle power.

Big guns Steve Johnson, Jared Rivers and Hamish McIntosh were all missing from the 22, handing young guns Brad Hartman and Darcy Lang debut matches.

But Cats mentor Chris Scott sent an ominous message to his coaching counterpart Guy McKenna, telling reporters in his post-match media conference the regular finalists would be out to push the much-improved SUNS.

"We won't be going into the game with any luxuries," Scott said.

"We'll be attacking it pretty hard."

The 2011 premiership coach is confident Johnson and Rivers would be passed fit to board the flight en route to Coolangatta Airport.

"Johnson had a back issue that's been good enough to play the last couple of weeks, but wasn't quite good enough this week," Scott said.

"Not a huge issue. He could've played, at a stretch, today I think.

"But it was getting to the point where he hadn't trained much, so we wanted to make sure that he got some training in before he tackled two six-day breaks in a row.

"Rivers has a knee that we've managed from the day that he walked into the club. That was a little bit sorer this week than it has been other weeks.

"With those guys, with those issues, and at the stage of their careers, we're always conservative."

Emerging 21-year-old George Horlin-Smith was handed the red vest during the Cats comprehensive win over the Saints, but is expected to be medically cleared to hold his place in the Cats’ 22.

Project forward Shane Kersten is in the mix for senior selection after an impressive display in the VFL.

"Kicked six in the twos yesterday," Scott said.

"He's one that … we've been looking to play for a long time and circumstances kept him out.

"But it might almost be time."
