A breakthrough year for Wil Powell has seen him pick up second in the 2021 Gold Coast SUNS Club Champion.

Powell was a defensive revelation for the SUNS in 2021 having moved to the back six late in 2020.

A fourth-year player for the SUNS, Powell is quickly becoming one of the more experienced players around the club.

He notched 50 games this season as he took his game to another level, becoming more comfortable in defence.

Consistency and work rate typified Powell’s breakout season.

A runner-up in the SUNS Club Champion adds to Powell’s accomplishments this season after he was named in the AFLPA 22Under22 team for the first time.

Powell collected 396 votes in the Club Champion across 22 games this year.

Powell’s best game of the year came in round 21 in the win against Carlton.

He had 28 disposals, eight marks, seven tackles, five spoils and a goal to stake claim for one of the most complete performances of the season.
