The Gold Coast SUNS has confirmed its coaching structure for the 2022 NAB AFL Women’s season.

AFLW Head Coach Cameron Joyce will front a six-person coaching panel.

Former GC SUNS AFL player and SUNS Academy Coach – Female Pathways Sam Iles joins the coaching staff for 2022 as Assistant Coach – Midfield.

Kieran Daley returns for a second AFLW season as Assistant Coach – Forwards, while former SUNS Academy assistant coach Jarrod Wells will hold the title of Assistant Coach – Defenders.

Matt Bedford enters his third season with the AFLW program as Development Coach/Runner, while Brooks Mustey officially joins as Development/Bench Coach after volunteering in 2021.

GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said the combined experience from the assembled group of coaches would strongly benefit the playing group.

“We’re really happy with the quality of coaches involved in our program for this season, and each of them bring a unique and diverse set of skills to the role,” Sessarago said.

“With so many of our players coming through the SUNS Academy, we thought it was advantageous to create a link with current Academy coaches joining our AFLW program.

“This ensures that we continue to develop local talent and provide SUNS Academy graduates with a smooth transition to AFLW football and also a pathway for local coaches.”

The club is also committed to developing the next wave of female coaches in the sport, offering two scholarships which will be filled in the lead-up to the 2022 NAB AFLW Season.
