The Gold Coast SUNS can confirm intercepting defender Jade Pregelj has sustained an ACL injury which will see her miss the remainder of the 2022 NAB AFLW Season.

Pregelj injured her knee in the first half of the match against Richmond on Sunday and was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the match.

GC SUNS AFLW Physiotherapist Jasmine Herlihy said scans early this week had confirmed the worst for the inaugural SUN.

“Jade had an MRI yesterday and unfortunately that’s shown us that she’s got an ACL tear so she will be out for the rest of the season unfortunately,” Herlihy told the Qscan Injury Update.

“She is going to consult with a specialist this week and then we’ll see what management we want to go ahead with.”

GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said the club would fully support Pregelj in her rehabilitation.

“It’s absolutely devastating news for Jade who is a much-loved teammate and has been so important for the club over our first three seasons,” Sessarago said.

“Jade is one of the toughest players at the SUNS and we have full confidence she will attack her rehab to come back stronger than ever.”

Dynamic forward Tori Groves-Little will also miss this weekend’s match as they continue to recover from concussion.

“Tori is going quite well with their rehab, they’re expected to be back next week for full training but unfortunately will miss this weekend’s game.”
