The GC SUNS are proud to announce it has set a new club AFLW membership record with 1,161 members in 2022.

The number surpasses the previous record of 1,099 set during the 2021 season and comes as the SUNS prepare for its final fixture of the 2022 campaign against Fremantle in Western Australia on Sunday.

The record-breaking season caps off a season filled with promise for the years ahead at the SUNS with seasoned experience combining nicely with promising new talent.

The 2022 NAB AFLW Premiership Season has seen the SUNS receive two Rising Star nominations (Charlie Rowbottom and Ellie Hampson) as well as the club breaking its record for most points in a match on two occasions.

Alison Drennan has been named the AFL Players’ Association’s MVP twice this season while also breaking her own record for most disposals in a game for the SUNS.

The club also has first-year recruit Tara Bohanna currently sitting in fifth on the leading goal-scorers list with 13 goals from her nine matches.

To celebrate the club’s new membership record, a selection of the SUNS’ most passionate AFLW members were also treated to a special honour from the club on Friday, named in the club’s AFLW Member Team of the Year.

The Team of the Year forms part of the SUNS Member Thank You Round this week – a celebration of the unwavering support to the club during a season full of twists and turns.
