The Gold Coast SUNS head into Round 3 with just one player under an injury cloud to face the GWS Giants.

Izak Rankine was a late withdrawal from the Round 2 team after failing to overcome a corked quad, and will be tested later in the week before a call is made on his availability.

“Izak’s going ok – he’s improving every day,” GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull told the Qscan Injury Update.

“He was pretty sore last week and just didn’t come up for the game so he’s doing a lot of recovery work to get himself right for this week and he’ll be a test later in the week.”

Charlie Constable has been recovering from a groin injury suffered in a pre-season VFL practice match and will re-join the group for full training this week.

“Charlie is going really well, he integrated into training last week,”

“He had a good session over the weekend and he’ll train fully this week with the aim of playing on the weekend.”

A number of players returned from injury in the VFL this week, with one of those being Sam Day who played his first game since injuring his wrist in the pre-season.

It was also a positive day for Connor Budarick and Matthew Conroy who returned from ACL injuries for their first competitive hit-out in a year.

“They did a power of work over the last year to rehabilitate from their ACL injuries,” Bull said.

“It was really pleasing to see them play well and pull up from the game as well so they’ll play this weekend too.”
