“He’s having an unbelievable season…”

The words of Senior Coach Stuart Dew could not ring any truer as he reflected on another dominate performance from Vice-Captain Sam Collins following Sunday’s Round 6 QClash game against the Brisbane Lions.

Collins is featuring heavily in many rolling All-Australian teams, and he certainly deserves his place, having a near flawless first six rounds, dominating opponents, and helping his fellow defenders with his intercept marks. So much so, that he is currently ranked first in intercept marks across the AFL.

He kept the Lion’s dangerous key forward Joe Daniher to just three goals and nine disposals, with two of those goals coming late in the last quarter, with one a downfield free kick. St.Kilda’s in-form Max King was kept to just eight disposals and three goals the week prior by Collins.

“He’s the ultimate team man, just a competitor,” said Dew, who is looking at Collins’ teammates to help him stop the flow of scoring shots that the Lions were able to secure on Sunday.

“He needs help and guys need to step up around [him],” said Dew.

Sunday’s game at the MCG against Collingwood will throw up another challenge for Collins, with Brody Mihocek or Darcy Cameron his likely opponent.
