The Gold Coast SUNS today received notice of the AFL’s decision to grant the Gold Coast SUNS special assistance ahead of Season 7 of the AFLW Competition.

The AFL received special assistance requests from clubs at the end of Season 6 to assist AFLW clubs with the ongoing development of their playing lists.

In assessing all requests, the AFL consider several factors including, win/loss record over the past two season, percentage, key statistical indicators, list profile and the introduction of four new expansion clubs into the competition.

During the sign and trade period which kicks off today, the Gold Coast SUNS have been provided with the ability to pre-sign up to four (4) mature age players who have previously nominated for the draft.

The SUNS will also receive an end of second round compensation pick, currently selection #49 for the draft.

Head of Women’s Football, Fiona Sesserago took the opportunity to thank the AFL for their consideration and quickly turned her attention to ensuring the club targeted specific needs with each selection.

“I’d like to thank the AFL for their consideration of the club’s request and now we focus our attention to filling some specific needs on our list during the upcoming Trade and Draft periods,” Sesseargo said.

“We know we’ve got the core playing group committed to taking our club forward and it’s important we continue to add specific players to continue both our on field and off field development.”

Both St Kilda and the West Coast Eagles received different forms of assistance based on the requests they made to the AFL.
