The Gold Coast SUNS have snared one of the top Tasmanian draft prospects after selecting Claire Ransom with pick 34 in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft.

Ransom is a silky midfielder with good evasiveness who can be damaging on a wing, but also has the skillset to play forward.

Ransom nominated for the Queensland draft pool after playing for the Allies in both the 2021 and 2022 NAB AFLW Under-19/18 Championships, the only Tasmanian to play in both years.

Coming through the Tasmania Devils development program in the NAB League Girls, Ransom was coached by SUNS AFLW Head Coach Cameron Joyce and reunited with him again with the Allies.

Now the pair will once again link up when the 18-year-old joins the SUNS AFLW squad for Season Seven of the NAB AFL Women’s competition.

Ransom averaged 19 disposals and five tackles per game for the Devils in the NAB League in 2022.

She was named as vice-captain of the NAB League Team of the Year in 2022 and was also named in the 2021 edition of the team.

Currently completing Grade 12 in Tasmania, Ransom will be focussing on both her academic and football commitments ahead of the upcoming AFLW season.
