The Gold Coast SUNS will go into Sunday’s highly-anticipated VFL Preliminary Final with another strong lineup to take on the Southport Sharks.

20 AFL-listed players have been named, with three SUNS Academy players; Jared Eckersley, Marlin Corbett and Jed Foggo, listed on the interchange as top-ups.

A SUNS midfield consisting of Ned Moyle, Jack Bowes, Charlie Constable, James Tsitas and Sam Flanders will be looking to set the tone early against a strong Southport opposition.

2022 Frosty Miller medallist Chris Burgess enters the contest with 12 goals in the last three weeks and will be tough to stop in a forward line which also includes fellow tall Josh Corbett.

Meanwhile in defence the SUNS have plenty of experience with Rory Thompson returning to the side after being a late out last week, surrounded by reliable youngsters Jez McLennan and Mac Andrew.

The SUNS boast a 13-3 record against Gold Coast neighbours Southport, including nine of the past 10, and stretching back to prior battles in the NEAFL.

A dominant two-month stretch has seen the SUNS win eight games in a row, including a tight-fought battle against the Sharks four weeks ago where the SUNS got over the line by nine points.

The match, which gets underway at 1:10pm AEST at Fankhauser Reserve, with free entry and will be broadcast live on the Seven Network.
