With two spots on its Rookie List remaining available, the Gold Coast SUNS have invited four players to train with the club during the 2023 AFL pre-season.

Previously AFL listed duo Jed Anderson and Boyd Woodcock, as well as SUNS Academy Player of the Year Brinn Little and Frankston’s Brodie McLaughlin have been offered the opportunity to train with the SUNS AFL squad throughout pre-season.

Versatile midfielder Anderson played 99 matches over eight seasons for both Hawthorn and North Melbourne while forward Woodcock played 12 AFL matches during two seasons at Port Adelaide before featuring in Southport’s VFL squad in 2022.

SUNS Academy product Little impressed in both the NAB League and for the Allies in the 2022 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships with the 19-year-old key defender’s aerial ability and work rate being his key strengths.

25-year-old McLaughlin earns his chance after a consistent season in the VFL for Frankston.

The SUNS will have the option to add players to its Rookie List during the AFL’s Supplemental Selection Period (SSP)  between now and the beginning of the season.

James Tsitas, who went on to make his AFL debut in 2022, joined the club during SSP after impressing when he was offered the chance to train with the SUNS in pre-season.

The four train-on players will be among a handful of fresh faces on the training track alongside the club’s newest draftees in Bailey Humphrey (Pick 6, National Draft), Lloyd Johnston (Academy Pre-Selection, Rookie Draft), Connor Blakely (Pick 7, Rookie Draft) and Jake Stein (Pick 23, Rookie Draft).
