The Gold Coast SUNS VFL squad got some game-time in the legs after a practice match against Sydney University on Saturday afternoon.

With the final score reading 21.24 (150) to 03.07 (25) in Gold Coast’s favour, there were a number of SUNS who impressed on the day.

New SUN Jed Anderson provided a hard edge in the midfield and won plenty of possessions alongside Connor Blakely who was impressive.

Ned Moyle was monstrous in the ruck and continued where he left off after amassing the most hitouts in the VFL in 2022.

They were supported by James Tsitas who was a driving factor in the SUNS maintaining the territory battle throughout the day with his clearance work around stoppages.

Alex Sexton had a day out in front of goals, booting six goals alongside Sam Day who had three himself.

Oskar Faulkhead provided plenty of run on the wing and was influential throughout the game with his ball use, while Malcolm Rosas Jnr was also used intermittently through the middle of the ground to provide a spark around stoppages.

Territorian draftee Lloyd Johnston was eye-catching off half back and broke the lines with his speed through the middle of the ground.

Fellow new recruit Jake Stein had a strong presence down back, continually repelling opposition probes inside 50 and using the ball well on rebound.

The SUNS VFL team kicks off its 2023 campaign with a Round 1 match against Williamstown this Saturday at Austworld Centre Oval.

First bounce is at 12:05pm.
