Five Gold Coast SUNS Academy players have earned selection in the U16 Girls All-Australian Team following last month’s 2023 AFL National Development Championships.
The SUNS have representation across each line in the squad with Alannah Welsh (back pocket), Sunny Lappin (wing), Georja Davies (full forward), Ava Usher (follower) and Dekota Baron (interchange) all earning selection from the undefeated SUNS squad.
Usher was also named as the Pool B MVP, averaging 25.5 disposals, 5.5 tackles, six clearances and a goal in the SUNS two matches.
Welsh was named SUNS Academy team MVP, as selected by the coaching staff of the Academy program.
The SUNS were one of two undefeated sides in Pool B alongside the Brisbane Lions Academy who edged the title on percentage.
Davies (five goals) and Baron (three goals) were the SUNS major goalkickers in the 12.14 (86) to 3.2 (20) victory over the Sydney Swans Academy.
The SUNS concluded its tournament with a 18.10 (118) to 3.0 (18) victory over Tasmania with the 18 goals spread among 11 goalkickers.
