Steven May says he is happy to play at both ends of the grounds in 2012.
Speaking to SUNS TV, the 20-year-old who played 9 matches in 2011 thinks a full pre-season will assist him in his second season.
“It’s so much better being out there with the boys training every day,” May said.
“Last year I was on the bike just rolling the legs over because I couldn’t run or anything, so it’s good to get a bit of a fitness base going heading into the season.”
May believes he and many of his teammates who also had injury interrupted pre-seasons last year will benefit from not only a full pre-season, but the GC SUNS training camp in Arizona.
“I think everyone is improving, especially guys like me who couldn’t really train because of injury. After Arizona, it’s really helped us catch up and compete with the main group and hopefully compete in AFL matches.”
May, holidayed at home in Darwin over the Christmas break and says he copes with the stifling Gold Coast weather a lot better than his teammates from the southern states.
“The heats a bit harder (on the Gold Coast), but in Darwin it’s a lot more humid.”
“I’m not finding it as hard as the other boys, some of the Victorian boys have just been home and the boys from Adelaide, they’re struggling a bit but I’m sure they will get used to it,” May said.
