SUNS Academy product Darcie Davies has been named as the Round 10 AFLW Rising Star nominee.

Davies kicked two goals and had 10 hit-outs in the SUNS' 14-point victory over Essendon in Mackay. She earns the Round 10 Rising Star nomination alongside Geelong’s Zali Friswell.

The win secured the Gold Coast SUNS a home final at Heritage Bank Stadium, which will be the club's second finals campaign and first final in three years.

Davies made her debut in the opening round of this season and has only missed one game, averaging nine hit-outs per game.

She had a season high 17 hit-outs in the SUNS 31-point win against the GWS GIANTS in Round 9.

The 18-year-old joined the club ahead of the 2023 season after rising through the ranks of the SUNS Academy and the AFLW Academy in 2022 and 2023.

Before joining the SUNS, Davies played QAFLW for the Southport Sharks and was an underage Australian representative in netball.

Darcie is one of three Davies sisters in the 2023 NAB AFLW Competition alongside Giselle (Gold Coast SUNS) and Fleur (GWS GIANTS). Their father, Darren Davies, played junior international rugby union for Wales.
