Seven goals to none before the first change set the scene for Tate Kaesler’s side who eventually ran out 50-point victors, 15.12 (102) to 7.10 (52) at Ikon Park.

An experienced SUNS side containing 18 AFL-listed players were never challenged thereafter, dominating the inside 50 count (57-37) before adding the final touches to a strong win with the game’s final three goals.

Former Blue Levi Casboult kicked two of his three majors in the first term as one of four multiple goalkickers for the SUNS. Sam Daymarked his return to the VFL side with four goals, while Jy Farrar and Brandon Ellis pushed their cases for senior returns with three and two goals apiece.

Rory Atkins enjoyed a day out in a quarterback-esque role rebounding off half-back with a staggering 40 disposals and 13 marks as the only player to better Brayden Fiorini’s 37 touches.

First-year player Will Graham’s contested work is sure to catch the eye of coaches (17 contested possessions, seven clearances) while Sean Lemmens also returned to action following his suspension (22 disposals, four inside 50s).

The result places the SUNS on the cusp of the VFL’s Top 8 with a game in hand on numerous sides above them. Next up is a return to People First Stadium next Sunday in a Grand Final rematch against Werribee.
