The Gold Coast SUNS have fallen just short in Sunday morning’s VFL clash against the Giants in Sydney.

The match featured 10 score changes with the margin never stretching beyond 11 points until a goal after the siren secured the home side a 15.3 (93) to 12.8 (80) victory.

Three consecutive SUNS goals across the third and fourth terms appeared to turn the tide in the SUNS favour before the Giants took charge again, finishing the game with three of their own.

David Swallow was the SUNS’ major ball winner with 23 disposals and seven clearances, serviced well by ruck Ned Moyle who amassed 53 hitouts to go with 17 disposals and a goal.

In the forward line, mid-season draftee Caleb Lewis, Alex Sexton and young Gold Coaster Lachlan Gulbin played their parts with two goals apiece. On his return to action, Lloyd Johnston didn’t miss a beat with some trademark run and carry to go with seven intercept possessions.

Also returning to the VFL side from AFL duties, Sean Lemmens (16 disposals) added experience in a young SUNS defence while Leo Lombard finished with a goal and 19 touches.

The SUNS next return to People First Stadium for the first time in a month, hosting the Casey Demons in an AFL curtain raiser on Saturday.
