Ellie Veerhuis is set to call the Gold Coast home for her second AFLW season after putting pen to paper on a new deal.

The contract extension will see Veerhuis remain in SUNS colours through to the end of the 2026 AFLW season.

Veerhuis joined the SUNS as an injury replacement player during pre-season before making her debut in Round 1 against the West Coast Eagles alongside rookie Tayla Gregory and StreetSmarts SUNS Academy talents Havana Harris, Mia Salisbury and Nyalli Milne.

The young SUN went on to feature in 11 of Gold Coast’s fixtures, showcasing her speed and defensive pressure on the wing.

The 19-year-old shared how thrilled she was to continue her AFLW journey at the SUNS in 2026.

“I’m really excited to be able to put my learnings from this season into another season of footy with the SUNS,” Veerhuis said.

“My first season has been amazing and the coaching staff have really helped me develop my football as a first-year player.”

Gold Coast SUNS General Manager of Football Craig Cameron said, “We’re really pleased to retain Ellie for another season.”

“Ellie has been a great addition and we look forward to seeing her develop further in our program.”
