Broadbeach Cats and Southport Sharks product and StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate Koby Coulson has tonight become a Gold Coast SUN at the Telstra AFL Draft.

Coulson was selected by the SUNS with Pick 46 after matching a bid from North Melbourne making him the fifth StreetSmarts SUNS Academy prospect drafted to the club at this year’s Draft.

GC SUNS National Recruiting Manager Kall Burns is thrilled to see yet another homegrown talent move on to the SUNS AFL list.

“Koby has been involved in the Gold Coast SUNS and our StreetSmarts SUNS Academy since he was a young boy and it’s a fantastic moment for him to realise his dream to become a SUNS AFL player,” Burns said.

“Another product to come from the Broadbeach Cats, Koby has had a remarkable 2025, earning the chance to play several VFL matches on top of selection as an Under 18 All Australian as well as our Male Academy Player of the Year.

“He has a long list of traits that we believe will be valuable additions to our AFL program and we’re excited to see him continue to develop under Damien Hardwick in 2026 and beyond.”

The 18-year-old had a superb 2025, establishing himself as one of the finest young midfielders in the draft pool with clean disposal and supreme ball-winning capabilities.

He averaged 24.3 disposals across four matches for the Allies at the Under 18 National Championships following impressive form for the SUNS Academy, taking out Male Academy Player of the Year at October’s Club Champion.

The Southport Sharks and Broadbeach Cats junior, who made his QAFL debut for the Cats as a 16-year-old, has been a member of the Academy since 2018, and also represented the SUNS at VFL level in both 2024 and 2025.
