The Gold Coast SUNS put its system to the test in the final pre-season hit-out against the Brisbane Lions, with plenty of positives to take despite falling by 25 points, 19.12 (126) to 15.11 (101). Here are the hot takes from the AAMI Community Series clash at Brighton Homes Arena.

Skipper Noah Anderson (22 disposals, nine i50s) got the SUNS off to a hot start, steaming out with the first centre clearance to put the SUNS on the board within the first 30 seconds.

Fellow midfield counterparts Christian Petracca (24 disposals, seven centre clearances & five i50s) and Wil Powell (six i50s, six tackles) also went to work, moving plenty of ball into the Gold Coast’s territory. Touk Miller also made the most of his opportunities at half forward (two goals).

In the first quarter, Leo Lombard took no chances - running into the goals to kick the first of his three goals off a contested mark.

Throughout the match, the second year SUN continued to play his role, keeping his cool to find new recruit Jamarra Ugle-Hagan (two goals) when the SUNS needed it most. Lombard finished the night with a silky third major of his own to go with 16 possessions.

StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate Zeke Uwland showed promising signs against the defending premiers, making use of the pill when in his possession (14 disposals, three score involvements).
