StreetSmarts SUNS Academy talent Zeke Uwland has earned an Opening Round selection, to become the Gold Coast SUNS first debutant of the 2026 season.

A lifelong SUNS fan and dedicated Burleigh Bombers junior, Uwland’s dream was realised when his older brother and SUNS defender Bodhi Uwland, alongside parents Michelle and Mark surprised the 18-year-old with the news he will be running out in SUNS colours on Friday night.

Uwland becomes the 25th StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate to debut for the Gold Coast SUNS and alongside Bodhi will become just the second pair of brothers to take field for the SUNS together.

Since joining the SUNS with pick 2 in the 2025 Telstra AFL Draft, the young SUN has impressed Senior Coach Damien Hardwick with his running ability and clean craft throughout his first AFL pre-season.

“We are thrilled to see Zeke earn the opportunity to debut in our season opener against Geelong,” Gold Coast SUNS General Manager of Football Craig Cameron said.

“Zeke has worked incredibly hard over the summer to embed himself into our system and prepare himself to take this step when the opportunity presented.

“It’s fantastic to see another young Gold Coast talent from our Academy earn the opportunity to live out his football dream in front of his family and friends at home."

The final SUNS team to take on the Geelong Cats will be named Thursday evening at 5:20pm AEST.
