The Gold Coast SUNS are pleased to announce Ben Long, Sam Clohesy and Max Knobel have all put pen to paper, securing their services in SUNS colours beyond the 2026 season.

Electric forward Long has inked a three-year extension, tying him to the Gold Coast until at least the end of 2029, while Clohesy will remain in the red gold and blue until 2028.

Since joining the SUNS in the 2022 Trade Period as a versatile running half-back, the Northern Territory product has most recently cemented himself as a mainstay in Damien Hardwick’s forward pocket.

In 2025, Long featured in the Indigenous All Stars game before being named in the All Australian squad. The 28-year-old is coming off the back of a career-best season, almost doubling his career goals tally to finish as runner-up in the SUNS leading goal kicker race with 45 goals.

SUNS fans will be pleased to see more of StreetSmarts SUNS Academy talent Clohesy who, after being recruited in in the 2023 Mid-Season Rookie Draft, delivered a breakout debut campaign on the wing in 2024 before an ankle injury hampered the back end of last season.

The emerging midfielder has played 35 games to date, including a strong performance in the Opening Round win against Geelong.

Rookie Max Knobel will also continue to develop his craft on the Gold Coast, signing a contract extension to remain on the SUNS list until the end 2027.

Gold Coast SUNS List Manager Kall Burns said the club is delighted to see several SUNS talents commit to the red, gold and blue.

We’re thrilled to secure the services of Ben, Sam and Max beyond the 2026 season,” Burns said.

“Ben is an important member of our squad. We’ve been pleased to see him thrive in SUNS colours and earn recognition both internally and across the league.

“Sam’s journey via our Academy, the VFL and eventually on to the AFL list reflects the work he’s put into his development. We’re thrilled to have him continue with the Gold Coast SUNS.

“Max has approached his development strongly since arriving at the club. We look forward to having him on the list for a further season.”
