The Gold Coast SUNS have celebrated International Women’s Day in true GC-fashion, teaming up with She’s Spicy to deliver a morning of connection, movement and empowerment at Mermaid Beach.

Frankie White and Maltida Mckinnon founded the inclusive wellness group ‘She’s Spicy’ in aims of fostering connection, belonging and community on the Gold Coast.

What started as a small, free sunrise Pilates class every week, has grown into a vibrant, thriving community which welcomed hundreds of Gold Coast locals, including SUNS players and staff, to celebrate the women in our lives on Friday morning.

As part of the event, guests heard from White and Mckinnon, as well as Gold Coast SUNS General Manager of Women’s Football Erin Phillips, before being treated to refreshments from Dairy Farmers and SUNS giveaways in the parkland.

The collaborative wellness event forms part of the club’s gender strategy, highlighting the club’s ongoing dedication to building a more inclusive, diverse, and welcoming community and workplace.

“Today was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the women in the Gold Coast community and recognise the importance of creating environments where women feel supported and valued every day,” Phillips said.

“It was wonderful to see so many SUNS players and staff out amongst the community connecting and supporting each other to get out there and move, a key pillar of our club’s purpose.”

She’s Spicy co-founder Frankie White shared what it means to collaborate with the Gold Coast SUNS football club.

“Collaborating with the Gold Coast SUNS is so meaningful for us because we are all about community and connection,” White said.

“What we're building with She's Spicy has always been focused on creating an inclusive space where people feel seen, heard, and welcomed. The SUNS share that same strong sense of community, and sport has such a powerful way of bringing people together.

“This collaboration really allows us to continue growing that inclusive community, reaching new people, and creating more opportunities for connection and belonging.”
