The Gold Coast SUNS fired up for its second win of the season on Sunday evening, taking out a blistering contest against the West Coast Eagles 20.11 (131) to 10.12 (72).
SUNS fans had plenty to celebrate in the Cultural Heritage Series clash as Damien Hardwick coached his side to a 59-point victory over the Eagles in his 50th game as SUNS senior coach.
Following Christian Petracca’s perfect 10 coaches votes on debut for the SUNS, the star recruit excited fans with a hat-trick of goals in the opening term before finishing with four goals and 14 score involvements.
Small forward Jake Rogers delivered on his return as a late in for Bailey Humphrey, involving himself in plenty of the scoring action (one goal, four goal assists) in his first match since the final home & away game against Essendon last season.
Jarrod Witts not only dominated in the ruck (51 hitouts) but was also influential across the field. The 208cm SUN amassed 16 contested possessions and eight score involvements to go with a major of his own.
With energy around the contest and leading across the ground, Gold Coast skipper Noah Anderson was damaging with a goal, 34 disposals and 11 score involvements. Vice-Captain Touk Miller followed suit (one goal, 24 disposals and eight i50s) alongside Alex Davies (one goal, 25 disposals, six i50s).
Defenders Joel Jeffrey (28 disposals) and Bodhi Uwland (24 disposals) were dominant around the play. While Mac Andrew (nine intercept possessions) sought redemption with plenty of air time, after a missed opportunity for a Mark of the Year contender in Opening Round.
To secure the four hottest points, 11 SUNS contributed to the scoreboard with the 2025 Gold Coast Leading Goal Kicker Ben King taking charge with five of his own.
