StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate and Burleigh Bombers junior Jai Murray will become the SUNS’ second AFL debutant of 2026 this Saturday.

The versatile midfielder will be named in Damien Hardwick’s side to face the Brisbane Lions in Saturday’s QClash at People First Stadium, becoming SUN #159.

Murray, alongside parents Mike and Lara and siblings Taj and Summer, was told the news he would be making his AFL debut by Hardwick on Wednesday evening at his family home.

“Senior coaching has some great things, and this is one of the best things you get to do, giving a young player his dream to play on the AFL stage for the first time,” Hardwick said.

“Jai has dealt with some adversity through injury, but ever since he walked into the club, even throughout his time in our Academy, we’ve been thoroughly impressed with this work rate, and his self drive.

“We’re pumped to give him the opportunity on Saturday and Gold Coast SUNS fans should be very excited about what he can become for this club.”

Murray joined the SUNS with Pick 18 in the 2025 AFL Draft following an injury interrupted draft year.

The 19-year-old was sidelined for significant periods during pre-season before returning to action and impressing throughout four games in the VFL.

Murray becomes the latest product of the Burleigh Bombers to earn an AFL debut, also becoming the 26th male StreetSmarts SUNS Academy graduate to represent the club.

He is the club’s second AFL debutant of 2026, alongside Opening Round debutant Zeke Uwland.

The final team for Saturday’s sold out QClash will be named on Thursday night.
