A five-goal-to-none second quarter has laid the foundation for Footscray to see off the Gold Coast SUNS in Saturday’s VFL curtain raiser at People First Stadium.

The Bulldogs led by 15 points at quarter-time, which ballooned to 45 points at the main break with the SUNS first major coming midway through the third quarter.

The SUNS kicked the game’s final four goals whilst keeping the Bulldogs scoreless in the final term, but the game was beyond Tate Kaesler’s side falling 12.11 (83) to 7.13 (55).

For a second week running, Sam Clohesy found plenty of the ball to lead all comers with 35 disposals, while both Ben Jepson (29 touches) and Zak Evans (28) were among the major ball winners.

Both Jy Farrar and Alex Davies returned from lengthy injury layoffs and pleasingly got through the match without concern.
