The AFL’s night of nights has been run and done with a fair bit of action for your Gold Coast SUNS throughout the night.

Leading the way

In fitting scenes, 2025 medallist Matt Rowell had the honour of presenting former Carey Grammar teammate Nick Daicos with his first Brownlow Medal.

It wasn’t the 39-vote night of 2025 for Rowell, but the 25-year-old came home with a wet sail with several monster games late in the piece to take seven votes from the final five matches, the last of which saw him eclipse 100 career votes and become just the second SUN to do so, behind Gary Ablett Jnr.

Noah Anderson and Christian Petracca led the charge for the SUNS on the night with both players having purple patches at various points throughout the count.

Petracca became the first SUN to poll three votes in his club debut, which was swiftly followed by another three three-vote outings in the following six matches. Anderson’s hot run came between Rounds 10 and 15, polling 10 votes in the space of five matches. The pair finished equal as the SUNS’ best with 15 votes apiece.

Surprise of the night

He himself wasn’t prepared to hear his name read out and the three votes in Round 9 took Touk Miller by surprise. 31 disposals, a goal and three tackles against the Saints… more than enough reason to catch the umpires’ eyes.

First votes

It didn’t take long for Club Champion Bodhi Uwland’s week to get that little bit better, earning his career first Brownlow Medal votes in the Round 2 win against West Coast. It wouldn’t be the only time the Uwland name was read out on the night, with Bodhi followed later by brother Zeke earning his first votes for a 31-disposal outing against Collingwood - the match in which he earned his Rising Star nomination.
