The Gold Coast SUNS have secured the services of AFL games record holder Scott Pendlebury after executing a trade with Collingwood.

Pendlebury heads to the SUNS in exchange for Pick 65 in this year’s Telstra AFL Draft.

The champion midfielder boasts one of the game’s greatest resumes across a storied career at Collingwood including six All Australians, five Magpies best and fairests to go with premierships in 2010 and 2023, as well as a Norm Smith Medal in 2010.

The 38-year-old recently concluded his 21st AFL campaign, and in May, he broke new ground in his 433rd AFL game, surpassing the AFL/VFL games record previously held by Brent Harvey.

Pendlebury says he’s excited for the opportunity that awaits on the Gold Coast.

“It’s an exciting group here at the SUNS and the opportunity to bring a few different ideas and also learn from a great group of coaches and players is one I’m really looking forward to,” Pendlebury told SUNS Media.

“This side is one I’ve watched from afar and really admired. I’ve got a bit of knowledge about the industry so I’m here to play my role and help this squad continue to develop.”

Gold Coast SUNS List and Recruitment Manager Kall Burns says Pendlebury will add significant experience to the SUNS list.

“We’re excited to welcome Scott and his young family to the Gold Coast SUNS,” Burns said.

“Scott has been a champion of our game for more than 20 years and he has experienced a lot of success in that time.

“Bringing a player with his wealth of knowledge and experience to our club provides another opportunity for our list to continue to grow as we strive to consistently contend and win finals.”

The Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period concludes next Wednesday, October 14.
