Ben King will depart the Gold Coast SUNS with the 26-year-old joining Hawthorn as a restricted free agent.
The SUNS will receive a first-round selection, currently pick 7, as free agency compensation following King’s departure.
King concludes his SUNS tenure following eight seasons during which he kicked a club record 315 goals in the red, gold and blue.
The key forward joined the SUNS with Pick 6 in the 2018 draft, going on to play 143 games and leading the club’s goalkicking on six occasions.
GC SUNS List and Recruitment Manager Kall Burns thanked King for his contributions to the club.
“As is Ben’s right as a free agent, he has chosen to pursue other opportunities in 2027,” Burns said.
“Ben has been a dedicated and valued contributor to our football club for the past eight years. We would like to thank him for all he has given to our football club and wish him all the best in this next stage of his career.”
The AFL Free Agency period closes today with the Continental Tyres AFL Trade Period concluding next Wednesday, October 14.
