Selection was based on a comprehensive review of player performances across a range of environments, including the State Development Carnival, North Queensland Community Carnival, AFLQ Schools Cup and community football competitions.

For many players, selection marks the next step on the pathway towards future representative opportunities, including the Under 16 National Championships. While representative football remains an important aspiration, the primary focus of the Academy program is player development.

Following a review of its Academy model, the SUNS have introduced several changes to the 2027 program, placing a stronger emphasis on individual growth and creating a more challenging, high-performance environment for aspiring footballers.

Key Program Enhancements

• Earlier start to pre-season training with a five-week block before Christmas
• Three training sessions per week
• Increased focus on athletic development and conditioning
• Greater standards and expectations across all areas of the program
• Smaller squad numbers to enhance individual attention and competition for selection
• North Queensland training camp in November
• Townsville training camp (formerly known as the All Stars program)

Training for the 2027 programs will commence on Mid-November.

The Gold Coast SUNS Academy congratulates all selected players and looks forward to supporting their development throughout what promises to be an exciting and rewarding year.
