The Gold Coast Suns, in partnership with a leading early learning services provider, have lodged a Development Application with the Gold Coast City Council to build a state-of-the-art childcare facility within the Metricon Stadium precinct.

The early learning centre will cater for 203 children and would sit on 5,100sqm of land at the southern end of the Carrara Sports Precinct, sitting roadside of the current training field.

The lodgement follows the release of the Queensland Governments Stadiums Taskforce Report. The Taskforce backed the Suns’ proposal as part of the report, with the government recommending any supplementary sources of income for sporting franchises be supported and encouraged, suggesting it would alleviate pressure to increase costs associated with attending sporting events.

Many sporting clubs, across the globe, are looking for ways to generate revenue away from the traditional means and the club is thrilled to be in a position to do so with a project that delivers such a strong community benefit.

An independent needs analysis report also recommended that there is overriding economic and community need for the proposed development and that the Stadium precinct is a logical and strategic location from which to cater to these needs.

In addition to providing a community benefit through additional childcare spaces for the Gold Coast, the project will also play a critical role in helping to grow the club.

The delivery of the project will generate many opportunities for the club to interact with the early learning centre including through family memberships, match day crèche, and a variety of programs which will engage children and their families.

The project will also increase exposure for pre-school age children to sports, leisure and recreational activities through access to on-site sport, mini football ground and integrated play activities including other sports activities all located within the Gold Coast Sports precinct.
