The Gold Coast SUNS have finalised its playing list ahead of the 2014 Season, recruiting three quality young footballers at the 2013 NAB AFL Draft, held at the Gold Coast Convention Centre on tonight.

Elite Tasmanian Kade Kolodjashnij was the GC SUNS first selection, with List & Strategy Manager Scott Clayton taking the athletic rebounding half-back with selection No. 5.

“Kade is a very exciting player with unbelievable athletic attributes and has got a great step,” Clayton said.

“He is incredibly versatile and can play anywhere on the ground.

“We’re very excited to have him at the Gold Coast.”

Speaking exclusively with goldcoastfc.com.au for the first time after pulling on his new club colours, Kolodjashnij said he was excited to achieve his AFL dream by joining the Gold Coast SUNS.

“Yeah I’m very excited to be here and can’t wait to meet my new teammates,” he said.

Taken with the club’s second selection at pick 20, Clayton said the club had snared a strong and combative defender in Jack Leslie.

“We think Jack is a future tall defender, and when you find them you have to take them,” Clayton said.

“We really like his attributes; he’s a grunt, aggressive defender and is unbelievably quick.

A hard-running defender with clean hands and a great attacking game, Clayton said the club’s third recruit, Sean Lemmens, had tremendous upside.

“Sean is a really strong defender and is great in heavy traffic.

“He can defend his man well, and will no doubt add further depth to our defensive stocks.”
