The Gold Coast SUNS have re-signed 19-year-old Rising Star Jaeger O’Meara, extending his contract until the end of 2016.

O’Meara, who is yet to miss a game after making his debut against St Kilda at Metricon Stadium in Round 1, becomes the twelfth player to re-commit to the club in 2013.

Hailing from Dongara, 350 kilometres north-northwest of Perth, O’Meara has averaged in excess of 22 disposals a game in his first 15 matches of AFL and has kicked 10 goals.

O’Meara was taken by the GC SUNS with selection one in the 2011 GWS Giants Trade Incentive Draft.

To land O’Meara, the GC SUNS traded selection four in the 2011 NAB AFL Draft and exchanged later picks with the GWS Giants to secure the first selection in the Trade Incentive Draft. .

List Manager Scott Clayton , who credited O’Meara’s manager Colin Young, said the contract extension demonstrated the faith O’Meara and his family have in the direction of the Gold Coast Football Club.

“We are thrilled to extend Jaeger’s contract for an extended period so early into his football career.

“Jaeger’s commitment demonstrates the confidence our players have in the direction of our football club and is yet another example of one of our players wanting to play a major role in shaping a successful future for the Gold Coast SUNS,” Clayton said.

O’Meara repeated Clayton’s thoughts.

“I’m just rapt to re-sign with the Gold Coast SUNS. The club showed enormous faith in me when I was recruited and in doing so provided me a great opportunity.

“We still have a heap of hard work ahead of us, but  I believe we have the chance to build something special here on the Gold Coast, and that’s something I really want to be a part of,” O’Meara said.

O’Meara joins teammates Dion Prestia, Zac Smith, Trent McKenzie, Seb Tape, Jack Martin, Rory Thompson, Charlie Dixon, Jesse Lonergan, Jackson Allen, Clay Cameron and Henry Schade who have all re-committed in 2013.
