Gold Coast has had two players poll AFL Coaches’ Association votes from the Round 5 match against Geelong.

SUNS skipper Jarrod Witts was voted the best SUN afield with two votes from his 29 hitouts, nine disposals and four clearances.

He was supported in the midfield by Hugh Greenwood who had one of his best performances in the red and gold.

Greenwood received one vote for his 21 disposals, 11 tackles, 15 contested possessions and six clearances. 

For the Cats, it was key forward Tom Hawkins who earnt the lion’s share of votes with nine for his three-goal game.

Joel Selwood (eight), Mitch Duncan (seven), Sam Menegola (two) and Esava Ratugolea (one) were the other vote-getters in Round 5. 

Despite injuring his shoulder in the first quarter, Matt Rowell still holds onto second place on the overall leaderboard, 10 votes behind competition leader Lachie Neale.

The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort to an individual player in a season.
