They are barely recognizable from the baby faced AFL debutantes who took to the field last year.

The class of 2012 are bigger, stronger and faster, and in news which should delight our army of female members, they are ripped to shreds with bulked up warrior like torsos.

The impressive transformation, due in part to an intense indoor gym and boxing program. The Tuesday sessions a favorite of renowned hard man Campbell Brown.

"Tuesdays are a day off our legs and so we do boxing or swimming or altitude work, just something to get the aerobic work in without the running in the legs."

"I really enjoy the boxing, you get a great work out and it's good for your hand eye coordination as well as a good way to release tension and get some really good fitness."

The sessions are intense, with the playing group given only short breaks between the powerful flurries of pugilistic activity.

The high tempo sessions last around 45 minutes and are designed to provide a solid work out without placing any load on the lower body.

Brown saying the efforts mirror what is required from the players on the field.

"The way the game is played, your on for three or four minutes and then your off and it's such high intensity and certainly boxing you get that because it's such a complete work out."

Gold Coast SUNS assistant coach Matt Kennedy runs the boxing sessions and says it's a great way to offset the extra bulk that some of the lists players achieve through their weights programs.

"Some of our senior guys they do tend to puff up somewhat if they do a lot of lifting, so this type of training still maintains their strength, their endurance and their ability to do the repeat efforts which is what our game is all about."

Over the 45 minutes the players will complete up to 300 efforts in small intervals, mirroring as close as possible a game simulation with short intervals, repeat speed and repeat effort.

While Browny is considered the most technical of the GC SUNS players, Karmichael Hunt is regarded as one of the heaviest hitters while rangy Southpaw Jarrod Brennan is tipped as the most likely to succeed with a Bodi career.

The sessions step up a gear next week with the pads cast aside as the boys step into the ring and up against each other for a series of sparring sessions.
