Despite a ramped up workload in his second AFL season, Karmichael Hunt says his body is in the best shape it's been for ages.

Hunt is one of only four Gold Coast SUNS players to line up in all 17 matches this season after being shifted from defence to midfield at the start of the year by coach Guy McKenna.

Hunt was visiting rugby league heartland on Monday when he paid a visit to Keebra Park High ahead of its statewide Gold Coast SUNS Cup finals campaign on Wednesday.

Last year Hunt was rested by McKenna in rounds 20 and 21 (of a 24-round season), saying he was "cooked", but the 25-year-old said there were no such fears this year.

"I feel pretty good physically," Hunt said.

I feel like I'm only getting better. I felt probably the best I've felt in a long time. I don't want to have a rest but I'm not too sure what the coaches are thinking.

"The experience of last year - and I've got two pre-seasons under my belt - I'm definitely in better shape than I was this time last year.

"I've felt like I'm moving well and don't feel like I'm holding the team back at all."

Just two weeks ago Hunt kicked a goal after the siren to defeat Richmond and has been a huge improver for the SUNS this year.

Playing in a midfield that has missed regulars Gary Ablett, Michael Rischitelli, David Swallow and Dion Prestia at different stages with injury, he has averaged 15 disposals and three tackles per game.

Hunt said the next two weeks against lowly Melbourne and GWS were an important start to the remainder of the season.

People are talking about there being a couple of gettable games, but for us we want to finish the season off well and that's five weeks of football, he said.

"We might be able to get a couple of wins in the next few weeks but why can't we get a few more?

"That's the way I see it and I'm sure the coaches are thinking that way as well. We just want to keep developing, keep getting better, and it starts this weekend against the Demons."
