In the same week that the Gold Coast SUNS announced that they have retained rising star Tom Lynch, outstanding midfielder David Swallow has signalled his intentions to play out his career as a one club player.
The number one draft pick excelled in his first year of top flight AFL with the GC SUNS and is a firm believer that the club, under the guidance of head coach Guy McKenna are building towards something special.
It was expected the highly regarded Swallow would be targeted by southern clubs or enticed back to Western Australia.
This week though, Swallow who is being launched as one of the faces of the Gold Coast SUNS 2012 Marketing Campaign revealed he wants to be apart of the GC SUNS long term success.
“I have made some really good mates here on the Gold Coast and it’s exciting to think what we could possibly achieve if we stay together here on the Coast.”
A sensation for the Gold Coasters during their inaugural year, Swallow is looking forward to once again teaming up with Ablett in the midfield this season and is confident with another extremely tough off season under his belt, he’ll be in a better position to be make a significant contribute later in the contest.
“The hamstring injury at the end of the season set me back a little bit, but I have had a really strong off season and I feel a lot fitter compared to the same time last year.”
While his short term future is secured at the GC SUNS, Swallow confirmed he is already considering a significant contract extension and could put pen to paper before the end of the 2012 campaign.
The signing of Lynch coupled with the now public intentions of Swallow will provide the young GC SUNS with a significant confidence boost as they prepare for next months NAB Cup.
