Gold Coast Football Clubs newest recruit Karmichael Hunt was over run with enthusiastic fans this week, when he headed out into the Community to his first ever AFL Auskick centre in the Northern Growth Corridor of the Gold Coast.
Hunt, who was joined by young team mates Jake Crawford and Liam Rutledge from the club, was swamped at the front gates of the Jubilee Primary school, as hundreds of young children were keen to get a signature, a high five or merely a glimpse at the man who plays his 3rd National level sport within 12 months, this weekend.
An Hunt didn’t let the kids down. In between ensuring everyone present got autograph, Karmichael was in amongst every activity going with the kids, which included goal kicking, marking and handballing activities before being the guest judge of a longest kick competition by the GCFC promotions team staff members.
Community Program Officer Corey Bell said “ To see so many children keen to get out on the oval and be Healthy and Active because of his involvement, that may not normally participate in any sport, is fantastic”.
The AFL Auskick program will see around 4000 participants take part on the Gold Coast in 2010 from around 80 centres and will see close to 30,000 through out Queensland which contributes significantly to the 170,000 children that participate Australia wide.
