Gold Coast SUNS Foundation Member Sam Williams
Gold Coast SUNS’ 2011 Memberships go on sale this Monday and fans of the club can’t wait to sign up and be part of the AFL’s 17th club’s historic first year.
One of the club’s existing members university student Sam Williams can’t wait to get involved. Originally from South Australia, Williams, 23, now lives in Brisbane and has been a member of the Gold Coast SUNS since their inception in the TAC Cup in 2009.
“I’ve just got a massive love for AFL in general. I’m a member of the Gold Coast, Port Adelaide and the Brisbane Lions as well, just so I can go to footy games,” said Williams. “I went to almost every VFL game that was on the coast this year. I just love the atmosphere down there and being a part of that.
“Charlie Dixon is an absolute gun. I’ve followed him all season, he’s one of my favourite players and guys like Dave Swallow are amazing so it’s certainly going to be exciting times ahead.”
Williams said being part of something from the beginning at the Gold Coast SUNS is what appealed to him most.
“I drive past the new stadium most weekends,” he said. “I take photos just to keep updated on where it’s at.”
When current members received an email this week outlining the membership packages available for next year Williams said he was thrilled.
“I’ve actually joined up seven of my mates to become members as well,” he said. “They all joined up in 2010, so I got onto the phone with all of them and got everyone’s opinion as to where we should sit. We were really excited to see the kind of seating plan that was available.”
