The Gold Coast SUNS have included six players in its 25 man squad to tackle Melbourne at the Gabba on Sunday.
Of the six inclusions, youngsters Luke Russell and Matt Shaw are set to debut.
Along with Russell and Shaw, the GC SUNS have brought Josh Fraser, Hayden Jolly, Josh Toy and Jack Hutchins into the squad. Jolly and Hutchins have been named on the extended interchange bench, and if selected in the final 22, will also make their AFL debuts.
Making way for them are, Campbell Brown, Nathan Krakouer and Harley Bennell.
Russell is a robust, combative, courageous and versatile footballer who leads by example, he was a standout junior basketball player before focusing his sporting attention on AFL.
He was just 16 years old when he first joined the Burnie Dockers’ senior squad. He later captained Tasmania in the 2009 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
Melbourne-raised Matt Shaw was a standout under 18’s player with the Dandenong Stingrays in the TAC Cup and performed well for Vic Country during the 2009 National Championships.
Despite his youthfulness, Shaw featured regularly in the GC SUNS VFL 2010 line up where his aggression and relentless multiple efforts were a real highlight.
The GC SUNS extended seven man interchange bench will be finalised on Friday afternoon.
