The Gold Coast SUNS today announced New Balance as the club’s official boot partner and thanked the global sportswear company for marking the occasion with a generous donation.

Speaking ahead of the SUNS’ Sir Doug Nicholls Round clash with Carlton in Darwin, CEO Mark Evans said New Balance will donate 5,000 pairs of boots to indigenous youths from communities, and to youths in need, in the SUNS’ regions of Gold Coast and surrounds, Darwin/NT and MacKay/North Queensland.

“The SUNS are excited to have an international sports company like New Balance join us as official boot partner and what better way to do it than helping 5,000 young people,” he said.

“We were pretty blown away when New Balance generously said they would mark the partnership by donating 5,000 pairs of boots to youths who otherwise might not have any.”

Dean Howard from New Balance said he hoped the donation would encourage the next batch of AFL and sporting champions – especially indigenous sporting stars.

“This donation is a fantastic way to kick off our new partnership with the SUNS,” he said.

“It’s a great joint initiative to support local sporting communities and we look forward to seeing the positive impact the boots will have on keeping kids active in sport.”

Evans said the donation will primarily focus on indigenous youths from communities, making it a great announcement ahead of Sir Doug Nicholls Round which celebrates our current and past indigenous AFL champions.

“We are proud that thousands of pairs of New Balance boots will be donated to help develop and encourage more indigenous footballers in their careers,” he said.

“As part of our partnership with New Balance, the boots will be allocated to the SUNS’ regions of the Gold Coast and surrounds, Darwin and the NT and MacKay plus North Queensland.”
