The Gold Coast SUNS have secured the services of talented goal-kicker Sarah Perkins after selecting the premiership forward with pick 23 in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft.

With 20 games of AFLW experience to her name, Perkins will have an immediate impact in Gold Coast’s forward line.

Starting her AFLW career with the Adelaide Crows in 2017, Perkins played 17 games in three seasons where she kicked 13 goals.

She was instrumental in the Crows’ 2017 premiership, winning the club’s leading goalkicker award as well as earning selection in the AFLW All Australian team that season.

After being delisted by Adelaide in 2019, Perkins returned to her home city Melbourne to play for Hawthorn in the VFLW.

She started the season slowly, but came home with force after two three-goal performances in the last month of the season.

Her strong form at VFLW level saw her called up to Melbourne’s AFLW squad as a train-on player due to mounting injuries.

She made her club debut for the Demons in Round 5 and went on to play the remaining two games, including the semi-final victory where she kicked a goal.

Perkins’ addition to the SUNS will add another dimension to the forward line as she aims to build a rapport with the likes of Kalinda Howarth and Britt Perry.

The 27-year-old will join her new teammates in time for the AFLW pre-season which begins in early November.
