The SUNS have selected Gold Coast local Lucy Single with pick 57 in the 2020 NAB AFLW Draft.

A versatile midfielder who can also play as a defender, Single played junior football with Burleigh before joining Bond University.

She had a key role in Bond’s minor premiership in 2020, playing 12 games and being named in the best on five occasions.

Playing for the SUNS Academy in the NAB AFLW All Stars match over the weekend, Single played a starring role and was named amongst the best players on the day.

The 18-year-old grew up in New Zealand and has a background in karate and rugby sevens, representing the Gold Coast in the 2019 Queensland State Rugby Sevens Championships.

She first started playing football in 2016 for Miami in the AFL Queensland Schools Cup, with Single captaining the side to a historic championship win.

Her rugby background lends itself to AFLW, with Single possessing elite speed and agility with a toughness around the contest.

She has the flexibility to play all over the ground and will be a valuable acquisition for the SUNS in 2021.
