Gold Coast SUNS CEO Andrew Travis has welcomed the GC SUNS’ 2016 AFL Premiership Season fixture released today.

“Our members and fans are the big winners after the release of our 2016 fixture,” Travis said.

“For the second year in a row, Metricon Stadium is set to host all of our home games on a Saturday.

“The feedback from our members has been incredibly strong that they prefer to attend Saturday matches, particularly in the twilight timeslot.

“In 2016, half of our home games will be twilight matches at Metricon Stadium, and in a win for the city we will host Carlton and St Kilda on the coast during the Victorian school holidays creating great economic impact for the Gold Coast economy,” Travis added.

Gold Coast will host traditional AFL heavyweights Essendon and Carlton in rounds one and three, ensuring the season kicks off with a bang at home.

From a television perspective, the GC SUNS will receive outstanding coverage, with every home and away game to be telecast live on both Foxtel and 7Mate throughout Queensland.

Thirteen of the club’s matches will be played in Queensland in 2016, with the GC SUNS travelling to Cairns for the sixth consecutive season for a match at Cazalys Stadium, with the Western Bulldogs hosting the first night home and away match at the venue, as well as an away game against Brisbane at the Gabba.

The GC SUNS will also play five games in Victoria, make the trip to Perth twice and play matches in Sydney and Launceston during the home and away season.
