The Gold Coast SUNS expect to have Ben Ainsworth available for selection for the Round 2 match against North Melbourne at Metricon Stadium.

Ainsworth missed the Round 1 clash against West Coast with a minor hamstring strain, but will train fully this week to put his hand up for selection, according to SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull.

“Ben’s going really well, he had some tightness through the training session last week and he’s improved really well over the week,” Bull told the Qscan Injury Update.

“We expect him to train fully this week and be available for selection.”

Ainsworth could be a potential replacement for young SUN Matt Rowell who earlier this week was ruled out for an extended period of time with an injury to his PCL.

In positive injury news, second-year SUN Jy Farrar will be available for selection again after recovering from a quad injury sustained in a pre-season game against the Brisbane Lions.

“It will be four weeks on Saturday since Jy hurt his quad in the first game against Brisbane and he’s done really well,” Bull said.

“(He) trained last week and will train fully this week as well so hopefully he’s available for selection as well.”
