Lauren Bella and Maddison Levi have been named in the AFL Players’ Association AFLW 22under22 after stellar performances throughout the 2021 NAB AFLW Premiership Season.
Bella had her strongest season in the ruck, leading the competition in hit outs with an average of 21.1 per game giving her midfielders first use of the football.
Originally from Sarina, near Mackay, the Ruck came through the SUNS Academy and has formed an integral piece of a young SUNS side.
Levi had her first season at the elite level, after also graduating from the SUNS Academy and being drafted with pick 50 in the 2021 NAB AFLW draft, playing 8 games out of 9 in her debut season.
As a towering presence she played most of her football this year across the forward line where she kicked 3 and averaged 5.8 tackles per game, but also spent time as relief in the ruck for Bella.
There was plenty to like from the rugby convert, and the more footy she plays I’m sure SUNS fans will expect big things from her in years to come.
To be eligible for selection, players must be aged 22 years or under for the entirety of the season, including the finals series.
AFL Players’ Association Board member, Leah Kaslar, said the concept is great recognition for the competition’s emerging talent.
“Congratulations to the players who made this year’s 40-person AFLW 22Under22 squad,” Kaslar said.
“There are so many talented young individuals who are already having a serious impact on the competition, which is clear given the standard is going from strength to strength each season.”
“Having seen these players first-hand on the field, it’s easy to see that the future is bright.”
