The Gold Coast SUNS will be without Sean Lemmens for Round 5 against the Western Bulldogs, while key defender Charlie Ballard will be a test for the match.

Lemmens was subbed out of Saturday’s Round 4 match at halftime with concussion and Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull says he will be put through the steps of the AFL concussion protocol.

“After the first few days where Sean just rests and doesn’t do too much we just gradually increase what he does,” Bull said.

“He’ll start a bit of cross-training through the middle of the week and then we’ll introduce weights and running at the back end of the week.

“Next week we’ll go through non-contact to contact training to hopefully be available to play next weekend.”

Ballard also sustained an ankle injury during the match and Bull said he would be tested later in the week before a call is made on his availability for Round 5.

“Charlie pulled up a little bit sore out of the game and a bit swollen as well,” Bull said.

“We’re going to have to put a fair bit of work into Charlie to try to get his swelling down and his strength back up and we’ll have to see how that plays out at the back end of the week.”

Team selection for this weekend will be announced on Friday afternoon.
