Northern Territory-raised youngster Steven May will become the Gold Coast SUNS 19th debutant when he makes his AFL debut against Essendon at Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

May, who has been named on the GC SUNS half-back line, could make his debut alongside Liam Patrick and Hayden Jolly who have both been included on the GC SUNS extended interchange bench.

May joined the GC SUNS as a priority zone selection after starring for the Top End at the Under-18 National Championships in 2008.

His efforts saw him named at full-forward in the AFL Under-18 All-Australian team although his size and athleticism allow him to play equally effectively at either end of the ground.

Known as a powerful and aggressive player with very strong hands on the lead and in contested marking situations, May also has good pace for a strongly built man, reads the play well and possesses a punishing left boot.

May has been impressive while playing for the GC SUNS reserves in 2011 and played a pivotal role in the GC SUNS reserves win over Labrador on Saturday.
