Long joined the SUNS in a trade after playing six seasons with St Kilda. He has played at both ends of the ground in his AFL career but was settled in defence in his first season with the SUNS. Long is known for being physically strong in the contest and hard to play against. He is one of many SUNS with connections to the Northern Territory and played in both Darwin matches for the SUNS in front of his hometown in 2023.
