Sam Virgo comes to the SUNS after playing 15 games in two seasons for the Brisbane Lions. An ACL injury sustained in the 2017 QWAFL Grand Final ruled Virgo out for the entire 2018 AFLW season, but the 32-year-old was still invaluable to the Lions as team manager in that time. On the field Virgo tends to play as a general defender but was trialled in a forward role during the 2019 QW Winter Series with success. Virgo brings a raft of experience and leadership to the club and has desires to develop her coaching in the future.
